The HSI ended the midday down 318 points or 1.2% at 25,579; the HSCEI lost 63 points or 0.7% to 8,641; and the HSTECH dropped 60 points or 1.2% to 4,994. The total midday market turnover was HKD131.003 billion.

Among oils, PETROCHINA (00857.HK) and CNOOC (00883.HK) leaped 2.4% and 3.4%, respectively, while oil equipment stock SHANDONG MOLONG (00568.HK) surged 13.1%, with a turnover exceeding HKD2.9 billion. Among coals, CHINA SHENHUA (01088.HK) spiked 3.1%. YANKUANG ENERGY (01171.HK) and CHINA COAL (01898.HK) mounted 8.5% and 5.9%. However, coal equipment stock SANY INT'L (00631.HK) dived 6.4%.

In the new energy sector, DATANG RENEW (01798.HK) soared 4.6%, while GCL TECH (03800.HK) retreated 2.6%. Aluminum stocks CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) and CHALCO (02600.HK) swelled 3.8% and 5.2%, while resource stocks MMG (01208.HK) and CMOC (03993.HK) cratered 3.3% and 5.5%. Gold miners SD GOLD (01787.HK), ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK), and LINGBAOGOLD-100 (03330.HK) slid 3.1-4.2%, and ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) fell off 5%.

Inflation concerns weighed on real estate and utility stocks. HENDERSON LAND (00012.HK), SHK PPT (00016.HK), CK ASSET (01113.HK), SWIREPROPERTIES (01972.HK), POWER ASSETS (00006.HK), and MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK) tumbled 3-3.5%. SINO LAND (00083.HK) and WHARF REIC (01997.HK) plunged 4.1% and 4.6%. Conglomerates CKH HOLDINGS (00001.HK) and SWIRE PACIFIC A (00019.HK) also sagged over 2%.

In the tech sector, TENCENT (00700.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) dipped 1.1% and 1.2%. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) dropped 1.7% and 2.1%. BABA-W (09988.HK) and BIDU-SW (09888.HK) faded 2.3% and 2.5%. JD-SW (09618.HK) inched up 0.2%.
