It is reported that the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) recently conducted raids on the equity capital markets (ECM) departments of at least two Chinese investment banks in Hong Kong. Of which, the SFC has launched an investigation into the Hong Kong branch of CITIC SEC (06030.HK), while Samuel Pan, Head of ECM at GUOTAI JUNAN I (01788.HK) in Hong Kong, was reportedly taken away by the ICAC to assist with the investigation. GUOTAI JUNAN I confirmed the incident in an announcement at the Stock Exchange this morning (12th), and said that the duties of a relevant employee have been immediately suspended, although the identity of the detained person was not disclosed. The SFC declined to comment on the matter, and the ICAC has not yet responded to requests for comment. CITIC SEC has also not commented on the matter.
