MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)'s food delivery app Keeta, originally slated to launch in early March in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was delayed as local competitors signed too many exclusive agreements with restaurants, according to hearsay.

Danilo Mansano, Vice President of Business Cooperation for Keeta Brazil, stated that all preparations, including promotional activities, marketing, and operational systems, are ready, but they are facing real challenges.

While the company had initially believed the rate of exclusive partnerships in the Rio area was between 8% and 10%, the actual situation is starkly contrasting with expectations, Mansano said.

Meituan had reportedly commenced operations in three cities in Sao Paulo State last year and planned to launch its "Keeta" app in Rio de Janeiro in early March. So far, the platform has cooperated with 39,000 restaurants and 115,000 delivery personnel.
