US tech stocks had a good run overnight (25th), with the Nasdaq rising 1.3% and the DJIA climbing 307 points or 0.6%. On the Hong Kong index futures settlement day, the HSI opened 254 points or 0.95% higher at 27,019; the HSCEI opened 44 points or 0.5% higher at 9,078; and the HSTECH opened 24 points or 0.5% higher at 5,284.

A consortium led by CKI HOLDINGS (01038.HK) sold the UK power distributor UKPN, with the enterprise value expected to involve HKD176.8 billion, and the stock opened 1.4% higher. CKH HOLDINGS (00001.HK) and POWER ASSETS (00006.HK) opened 2.4% and 1.1% higher, respectively, while CK ASSET (01113.HK) opened 2.2% higher. HSBC soared 7.9% in London following its earnings release, at a closing price 3.6% above its closing price in Hong Kong. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) spiked over 5% yesterday and opened 2.9% higher this morning at HKD146.8.

In the tech sector, BIDU-SW (09888.HK) announced its quarterly results after the market closed, with the stock opening 0.8% higher at HKD129.9. TENCENT (00700.HK) opened 1.2% higher at HKD529. BABA-W (09988.HK) opened flat at HKD148.3. JD-SW (09618.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) opened 0.5% and 1% higher, respectively, while MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) opened flat at HKD82.7.

HKEX (00388.HK) opened 0.9% higher. AIA (01299.HK) opened 3% higher. Financial Secretary Paul Chan stated yesterday that the Insurance Authority will optimize the risk-based capital regime for insurance companies, adjusting risk parameters for general insurance business and lowering capital requirements for infrastructure investments.
