2026 marks the beginning of the "15th Five-Year Plan", Ren Yuzhi, Director of the Planning Department of the National Energy Administration (NEA), stated. The administration will implement a new energy system and a series of sectoral energy plans to deeply practice the new energy security strategy, accelerate the construction of a new energy system, and promote the development of an energy powerhouse. This aims to provide strong energy support for decisive progress in achieving socialist modernization. Among these efforts, there is a focus on ensuring that "projects follow the plan". On one hand, there will be solid advancement of strategic landmark major projects, with the safe and orderly progress of the Yaxia Hydropower Project, the layout and construction of the "Three Norths" wind and photovoltaic bases, the Southwest integrated water, wind, and solar bases, coastal nuclear power bases, and offshore wind power bases, as well as the optimization of power and oil and gas backbone channels. On the other hand, there will be an acceleration in the construction of a number of "small yet beautiful" projects, implementation of the electric vehicle charging network enhancement project, layout and construction of several integrated wind, solar, hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol bases, construction of a batch of solar thermal power projects, and establishment of zero-carbon parks to promote the green transformation of thermal systems.
