The Hong Kong equity market reopened after the Lunar New Year holiday, opening lower on the first trading day of the Year of the Horse. The HSI opened 48 points or 0.2% lower at 26,657. The HSCEI opened 17 points or 0.2% lower at 9,052. The HSTECH opened 36 points or 0.7% lower at 5,330. Oil producer CNOOC (00883.HK) jumped up 2.2%, while energy transport stock COSCO SHIP ENGY (01138.HK) elevated 6.1%. Commodities stocks ascended, with CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK) ballooning 2.7%. MMG (01208.HK) and CMOC (03993.HK) leaped 2.3% and 2%, while CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) gained 1.6%. For techs, BABA-W (09988.HK) and BIDU-SW (09888.HK) sagged 3%, while TENCENT (00700.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) ebbed 0.3% and 0.4%. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) lost 0.7-1.1%, while BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) and KINGDEE INT'L (00268.HK) slumped 3.8% and 3.2%. Chip stocks SMIC (00981.HK) and HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) opened flat at $69.9 and $99.9 respectively. Handset parts stock SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK) slipped 1.3%. For automakers, BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) slid 0.2%, while XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) opened flat at $36.66. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) shed 1%. For financials, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) and HKEX (00388.HK) lifted 0.6% and 0.3%, while AIA (01299.HK) opened flat at $82.35.
