MIIT: CN 5G User Base Tops 1.2B; 2nd Phase of 6G Tech Testing Launched

China has built the world's largest and most technologically advanced information infrastructure, Xie Cun, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stated today (21st). In terms of mobile networks, China has constructed 4.838 million 5G base stations, with all towns and 95% of administrative villages nationwide covered by 5G. On the personal user level, the 5G user base surpasses 1.2 billion. Xie added that China's share of global 5G standard essential patents is 42%, whereas the first phase of 6G research and development has been completed, forming a reserve of over 300 key technologies, and the second phase of 6G technology testing has recently been launched. Next, the MIIT will focus on coordinating the advancement of "construction, usage, and research", underscoring the three keywords "upgrade, iteration, and deepening" to promote high-quality development in the information and communication industry.
