Tesla (TSLA.US) charted a plunge in new car registrations in the UK last December, slumping 29% to 6,323 units, with an annual decline of 8.9%, data from New AutoMotive showed. This was attributable to fierce market competition, aging models, and CEO Elon Musk's political stance in Europe.

In contrast, Chinese competitor BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) saw its new car registrations in December leap nearly fivefold YoY, reaching 5,194 units, indicating that Tesla still maintains its position as the best-selling EV brand in the UK in terms of numbers.
