EU member state finance ministers agreed to impose tariffs on all import packages valued at less than EUR150 starting from July 2026.

A fee of EUR3 (approximately USD3.52) will be charged per product category contained within the package, aiming to curb the import of low-cost packages from Chinese e-commerce platforms.

The EU explained that this temporary measure addresses the issue of tax-free entry of low-cost packages into the EU, which creates unfair competition for EU sellers, poses health and safety risks to consumers, and raises concerns about fraud and environmental impact.
