China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) recently approved the establishment of the National Platform Economy Governance Standardization Technical Committee. Its functions particularly address prominent issues and key aspects in platform economy governance, such as the current "involution" competition and the chaos in live-streaming e-commerce.

The Committee will widely involve platform enterprises, operators within platforms, platform practitioners, quality commercial enterprises, government departments, research institutions, industry organizations, and consumers.

It aims to accelerate the development of urgently needed standards to guide industry self-discipline and support industry regulation through unified standards, promoting the standardized, healthy, and sustainable development of the platform economy.

Last month, the Administration addressed prominent issues in the competition within the food delivery industry by summoning platform enterprises such as JD-SW (09618.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), and BABA-W (09988.HK)'s subsidiary Ele.me.

These companies were required to reinforce internal management, operate legally and compliantly, and compete fairly and orderly.
