China has granted exemptions for certain U.S. imports from its 125% tariffs and is asking businesses to identify additional goods eligible for exemptions, Reuters, citing sources, reported. Chinese authorities are compiling a list of products that may qualify for tariff waivers and have requested companies to submit applications. Michael Hart, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, said the Chinese government has inquired about a list of goods that can only be sourced from the U.S. Some companies reported that certain imports over the past week were not subject to the new tariffs. A list of 131 product categories under consideration for tariff exemptions, including vaccines, chemicals, and aircraft engines, is circulating on Chinese social media and among business trade groups. Huatai Securities estimated that this list corresponds to US$45 billion in imports to China last year. AAStocks Financial News |
