Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, are planning to visit China at the end of July to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, indicating that the EU wants to build a better relationship with China under the pressure from US tariffs, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) quoted sources as saying.

The last summit between the two parties was also held in China, hence the EU official's revisit to China is a break with past practice and a sign of the EU's eagerness to discuss trade issues with China, the report added.
