After a phone meeting between US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent estimated that Japan would be given priority in tariff negotiations with the US. Bessent will co-lead the US side of the talks with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

Ishiba held a cabinet meeting this morning (8th) to discuss tariff issues. He reiterated regret over US tariffs and expressed concern about the impact on Japan's automotive industry, believing that tariffs would weaken Japanese companies' investment capabilities in the US.
