A XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) SU7 vehicle crashed into a guardrail and caught fire on a highway in Anhui last Saturday (March 29). A netizen claiming to be a relative of the deceased stated that the car doors were locked during the accident, and a battery explosion resulted in the three occupants being burned to death.

In response via its official Weibo account, Xiaomi Auto stated that, based on currently known information, it can only confirm that the fire was not a case of “spontaneous combustion” as speculated online.

It is presumed that the severe collision with a concrete barrier caused immense damage to the vehicle’s systems. As the company has not yet accessed the accident vehicle, a deeper analysis is not possible at this time.

In this incident, the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) system issued an “obstacle ahead” warning and initiated deceleration. Approximately one second later, the driver took over, and the NOA function disengaged.

The Xiaomi SU7 Standard Edition is equipped with forward collision assistance features, including Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), which target vehicles, pedestrians, and two-wheeled vehicles.
