CN MOC Focuses on Unclogging NEV Mkt Circulation to Sustain Rapid Growth

A related person in charge from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) of China stated at the 2025 China EV100 Forum that the mainland’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market has sustained its rapid growth this year. Moving forward, the ministry plans to deepen the implementation of the automobile trade-in program, appropriately enlarging support for consumers upgrading to NEVs to unlock latent consumption potential. Efforts will also focus on addressing bottlenecks in NEV market circulation and strengthening supporting infrastructure. As of March 28, 2025, over 1.769 million applications for automobile trade-in subsidies were submitted in the mainland, data showed, The aggregate retail sales of NEV passenger cars exceeded 2.05 million units, reflecting a YoY rise of approximately 34%. Last year, the nationwide total for automobile trade-ins surpassed 6.8 million vehicles, with around 4 million being NEVs. In 2024, one-third of retailed NEVs benefited from trade-in subsidies.
