In a bid to revitalize the US shipbuilding industry, US President Donald Trump is currently drafting an executive order to impose hefty port fees of up to US$1.5 million on ships made in China or fleets that include Chinese-made ships, Reuters reported. This move, however, is escalating uncertainty in the US coal and agriculture markets as exporters will face hurdles in seeking ships to transport their goods. The report also mentioned that these potential port fees have already limited the availability of ships required for transporting goods such as agriculture, energy, mining, and construction to international buyers.
