Nvidia (NVDA.US) CEO Jensen Huang addressed concerns that DeepSeek’s AI model R1, which reportedly requires fewer chips and more powerful servers, poses a threat, calling such worries misplaced.

He argued that this reflects a complete misunderstanding of R1, as new AI models capable of delivering more complex answers will only increase demand for computational infrastructure.

Huang also dismissed claims that customers developing their own chips would displace Nvidia’s AI accelerators in data centers. While many application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) are designed, they are not necessarily deployed in data centers.

Major clients, he said, seek superior chips to maximize returns from their infrastructure and are unlikely to opt for cheaper alternatives to cut costs.

Huang also stated that the short-term impact of tariffs on imports should be minimal and not significantly affect the company, as Nvidia will continue shifting the manufacturing base of its most critical products to the US.
