Spot gold has busted above US$3,000 to reach a historic high of US$3,008.53 per ounce. It last printed at US$3,006.48 per ounce, up 0.2%. Gold futures for April also rose 0.3% to US$3,014.8 per ounce. These increases were driven by concerns over economic slowdown due to weaker-than-expected US retail data and gold's safe-haven appeal further highlighted by the escalating Middle East situation.

Gold miners led the charge in the Hong Kong stock market today (18th). ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) last printed at $17.84, up 4.69%, on a volume of 16.1982 million shares, involving $284 million.
