The Board of Airlines Representatives in Hong Kong (BAR) has written to Financial Secretary Paul Chan to express opposition to the hike in departure tax, worrying that the competitiveness of Hong Kong's airport will be jeopardized, according to Ming Pao.

The tax hike may cause international travelers in the Greater Bay Area to shift to Guangzhou and Shenzhen airports, the report also quoted CATHAY PAC AIR (00293.HK) and its Hong Kong Express as saying.

The Greater Bay Airlines said that it was very concerned about the tax hike, believing that it would dampen the public's desire to travel and urging the Hong Kong government to consider it carefully.
