A recent investigation by Xinhua News Agency has revealed issues in the telemarketing tactics in China's telecom industry, such as prevalent misleading upgrades and hidden charges.

Meanwhile, the China Consumers Association has also released the "Analysis of Complaints Accepted by National Consumer Associations in 1H24", in which it highlighted issues of improper marketing, including telecom operators' sales personnel often misleading consumers into activating paid services with different methods.

In response, China's three major telecom operators, CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK) (600941.SH), CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK), and CHINA TELECOM (00728.HK) (601728.SH), stated on their official Weibo accounts that they highly value the reports by Xinhua News Agency on telemarketing.

They also mentioned that self-examinations have been initiated in accordance with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's 2025 guidelines for the construction and rectification of the information and communication industry.
