China’s National Data Administration (NDA) recently approved the establishment of National Digital Economy Innovation and Development Pilot Zones in Tianjin City, Hebei Province (Xiong’an New Area), Shanghai City, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Guangdong Province, and Sichuan Province.

Moving forward, these pilot zones will focus on five key tasks: advancing market-oriented reforms for data resource allocation, optimizing the layout of data infrastructure, achieving breakthroughs in core digital technologies, deepening digital transformation, and promoting data-adapted reforms. Targeted pilot experiments will be conducted to build internationally competitive digital industry clusters.

Moreover, the NDA, in collaboration with relevant authorities, will provide comprehensive coordination and guidance, increase policy support for the pilot zones, and summarize and promote exemplary practices. Once conditions are ripe, these efforts will be formalized into nationwide policies and systems through established procedures.
