He Xiaopeng, a deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of XPENG-W (09868.HK) (XPEV.US), said during the Two Sessions that Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) companies might face a three-year elimination phase, followed by a three to five-year advancement phase. Ultimately, the surviving companies may number fewer than seven, possibly only five.

He explained that his prediction was based on the rapid changes in China's automotive industry over the past decade. Ten years ago, there were about 400 traditional car companies in China, and now only about 40 remain.
