Hong Kong's Health Bureau is exploring legislation to enhance transparency in private healthcare charges. According to the study report released by the Consumer Council, the current transparency in private healthcare service charges is insufficient, including asymmetry in information between patients and healthcare providers and the lack of detailed listings of doctors' fees. In response, the Consumer Council has put forward five major recommendations. Among them, the Consumer Council recommended enhancing consumers' access to price information in phases. For instance, day procedure centers should proactively publicize price information online, while the government can develop guidelines for private hospitals and day procedure centers on presenting price lists in user-friendly formats.
