CKH HOLDINGS (00001.HK) is reportedly planning to divest a 90% stake in Panama ports held by its subsidiary Hutchison Ports. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian declined to comment on the commercial transaction.

Prior to this, the HKSAR government had responded to concerns regarding HK companies operating the ports in question.

Lin underscored that China supports domestic enterprises, including those from the HKSAR, in investing and conducting business overseas.

He urged all countries to provide a level-playing field for such enterprises, while opposing coercive tactics and pressure in international economic and trade relations.

Lin further stated that China supports Panama’s sovereignty over the canal and is committed to maintaining its status as a permanently neutral international waterway.

He clarified that China has never participated in the management or operation of the canal, nor interfered in its affairs, dismissing claims of "Chinese control over the canal" as entirely false.
