Li Shufu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of Geely Holding Group, stated that during this year’s Two Sessions, he will focus on key issues such as energy security, environmental protection, green sustainable development, and education.

Li emphasized that vigorously developing renewable energy is a critical measure to deepen the energy revolution and ensure national energy security. He hopes to establish national standards for green methanol and methanol refueling stations tailored to China’s conditions, supporting the large-scale development of the methanol production industry using industrial CO2 capture and hydrogen. This would guide the sector toward sustainable and healthy growth, accelerating the realization of green methanol’s ecological value.

The mainland emits approximately 8 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually, Li pointed out. By utilizing one-tenth of high-concentration CO2 to synthesize green methanol, around 600 million tons of green methanol could be produced, equivalent to 270 million tons of refined oil. This approach would not only absorb industrial carbon emissions but also leverage vast amounts of wind and solar power. The large-scale application of green methanol in commercial vehicles could address national energy security concerns while swiftly tackling the challenge of reducing carbon emissions in the commercial vehicle sector.
