Market research agency TrendForce forecasted that global new car sales will reach 90.6 million units this year, up 2.4% YoY. Among them, the Chinese market is expected to account for 29%, while the US and Western European markets will account for 18% and 15% respectively. Because of the immense uncertainty posed by tariffs on the US market, TrendForce estimated competition in China's smart car sector to escalate. TrendForce also anticipated that BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)'s push for smart driving by integrating advanced driver assistance features into affordable models will accelerate the adoption of smart driving technology in China, which will in turn intensify competition within the local smart car supply chain.
