Apple is relying on Baidu due to China's regulatory requirement for foreign companies to partner with local firms to develop AI applications for consumers, report told.

Alibaba (BABA.US) Chairman Joseph Tsai confirmed the company’s partnership with Apple at a forum last week. Apple's partnerships with Baidu and Alibaba mean the company is adopting a non-exclusive model for AI development in China.

Baidu's ADRs jumped up 3.5% at US$96.59 overnight (13th).
