Hongkong Tramways Applies for Fare Hike; Elderly Ticket Price Rises 15%+

Hongkong Tramways announced that it had submitted a fare adjustment application to the Transport Department, proposing to increase the adult fare from the current $3 to $3.3, representing an increase of 10%; the concessionary fare for children (aged 3 to 12) will rise from $1.5 to $1.6, an increase of about 6.66%; and the concessionary fare for the elderly (aged 65 and above) will grow from $1.3 to $1.5, an increase of about 15.38%. The monthly ticket price will remain unchanged. Hongkong Tramways explained that the fare adjustment will be used primarily to renovate the fleet to meet conservation standards and expand non-fare box revenue streams to ensure the sustainable operation and development of tram services.
