Maoyan Research Institute, under MAOYAN ENT (01896.HK), cited data from piaofang.maoyan.com that the total box office of the mainland China during Chinese New Year period, i.e. from January 28 to February 4, topped RMB9.51 billion, with a total of 187 million moviegoers, which set a new record for the Chinese New Year's box office and attendance in Chinese movie history. Among which, the box office on the first day of the Lunar New Year whopped RMB1.808 billion, with total moviegoers reaching 35.22 million, both of which marked new records for single-day box office and moviegoers.
