The US Postal Service has temporarily halted acceptance of parcels from China and Hong Kong from today. Willy Lin, Chairman of Hong Kong Shippers’ Council (HKSC), said this will severely impact e-commerce platforms as many Chinese export e-commerce products are processed through Mainland China or Hong Kong postal services, which could result in some goods being held up in Hong Kong and lead to US consumers requesting refunds. Some industry players might temporarily suspend shipments, Lin also mentioned. Although e-commerce platforms can opt for large international courier companies, the costs could rise by 50%, and the customs clearance procedures are more complex and may extend delivery times.
