Panama Announces Non-Renewal of Participation in CN BRI

After meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Panama's President Jose Raul Mulino announced that Panama would not renew its participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China, and would study the possibility of early withdrawal. Panama would work further with the US on immigration, but emphasized that Panama's autonomy would not be affected, Mulino added. CKH HOLDINGS (00001.HK)'s subsidiary, Hutchison Ports, operates Panama's ports. CLSA released a research report analyzing that Panama's ports will have a limited impact on CKH HOLDINGS' actual finances. The broker estimated that the port will only contribute 0.66% of CKH HOLDINGS' total EBIT in 2023. CKH HOLDINGS opened 1.79% lower today, and bottomed at $38.2.
