The number of tourists visiting Macao in the Chinese New Year is more than expected, with the highest one-day passenger flow of nearly 220,000, according to Macao Daily News. The hotel industry in Macao indicated that their business was better in Chinese New Year of 2025 than that of 2024, and the occupancy rate is in line with the industry's expectation, with the occupancy rate of traditional hotels at 90% or above. It is envisioned that the business will be satisfactory after the festival, surpassing that of 2019. Hoteliers in Macau also revealed that the overall occupancy rate of hotels in Macau topped 90% in the Chinese New Year of 2025. Some traditional hotels without casinos on the Macau Peninsula also enjoyed promising occupancy rates, with some units even fully booked. Regarding room rates, they advanced in the Chinese New Year, with traditional hotel room rates ranging from MOP1,500 to MOP2,000, about 20% higher than on weekdays. The gap with the pre-epidemic period remained, which was tied to last year's economy and the supply and demand of rooms. However, unlike in the past, the speculation of room rates in Chinese New Year has been less common in recent years, given the higher number of hotel rooms in Macau and neighboring regions.
