HK Latest Seasonally Adjusted Jobless Rate Remains at 3.1%, In Line

According to the latest labor force statistics (i.e. provisional figures for October - December 2024) released today (20th) by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD), the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.1% in October - December 2024, same as that in September - November 2024. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.1% in the two periods. Commenting on the latest unemployment figures, the Secretary for Labor and Welfare, Chris Sun, said the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stayed low at 3.1% in October - December 2024, same as September - November 2024. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.1%. Total employment increased by 7,100 to 3.7189 million, and the labor force increased slightly by 900 to 3.8324 million. The number of unemployed persons decreased 6,100 to 113,600. Looking ahead, Sun said the labor market should remain largely stable in the near term, though the employment situation in some sectors might be more affected by the increased uncertainties in the global environment.
