China’s Ministry of Commerce and other government units released details of the types and standards of subsidies for the trade-in of smartphones, tablet PCs, smart watches and home appliances. With effect from next Monday (20th), individual consumers who purchase three types of digital products, namely smartphones, tablet PCs and smart watches, with a selling price of no more than RMB6,000 per item will be eligible for the subsidy. The subsidy rate per item is 15% of the final tag price after deducting all discounts offered by production, distribution and mobile operators, with a maximum of RMB500 per item. Individual consumers who purchase 12 types of home appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, air conditioners, computers, water heaters, household stoves, range hoods, water purifiers, dishwashers, electric rice cookers and microwave ovens, are given a subsidy rate of 15% of the final selling price of the product, and an additional 5% subsidy of the final selling price of the product for those with energy or water efficiency standards of Grade 1 and above.
