Apple (AAPL.US) and Samsung's global smartphone shipments sank in 4Q24, according to preliminary data from IDC, in wake of stiff competition from Chinese companies.

Apple's global shipments lost 4.1% to 76.9 million units last quarter, while Samsung's fell 2.7% to 51.7 million units under escalated competition from Chinese firms such as XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), Oppo and Honor, report revealed.

As for 2024, Apple topped the global smartphone market with a market share of 18.7%, preceding Samsung and Xiaomi with 18% and 13.6% respectively.
