The kidnapping of Mainland China's actor Wang Xing to Myanmar's fraudster base camp from Thailand, where he filmed for a show, has recently triggered a "cancellation wave of tours to Thailand" in the mainland.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAA) estimated that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand during the Spring Festival holiday may therefore slump by 10-20%.

After the incident came to light, major travel platforms and travel agencies in the mainland received more enquiries about the safety of travel to Thailand, where some travelers chose to get refunds or switch to other Southeast Asian countries, Chinese media reported.

The report also quoted a TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK) physical store manager as saying that the kidnapping incident has prompted a decrease in travel bookings to Thailand.

Currently, there is only one Thai tour group of dozens of people scheduled to depart from the mainland before the end of this month, the manager said, adding the incident will absolutely affect the travel confidence of Chinese tourists in the short term.
