CPCA Projects YoY Sales Slump in Jan, w/ Decline Rate Not To be More than 20%

China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), analyzing the outlook of the national passenger vehicle market in January 2025, mentioned that there are 19 working days in January 2025, three days less than last January and December; coupled with the fact that the automobile industry usually takes early vacations before the Spring Festival, the effective production time and sales time in January is brief. The Association also highlighted the greater impact from external economic environment and seasonal demand on the automobile market, especially the influence of the Spring Festival. To cope with the complex external environment, the succession of regional “Two New” policies and the bottom-guarantee clauses introduced by enterprises continued to support the new car market to a large extent. The annual “jumpstart” in January has been a concerted effort of local governments and automakers for numerous years, which will give rise to a certain amount of wholesale transfer; combined with the fact that some companies in the market still have a considerable amount of orders waiting to be delivered, it is estimated that the YoY sales slip in January will not be more than 20%, given the two-way hedging.
