UBS: HSI Yr-end Target at 20,000

Angus Chan, Hong Kong strategist at UBS, remarked that the HSI is targeted at 20,000 by the end of this year, citing market sentiment will be swayed by factors such as US interest rates and geopolitics. The broker preferred infrastructure, Hong Kong property developers and telecoms with high dividends and better financial prints. Moreover, UBS recommended allocations to the Internet sector, tourism-related sectors including casinos, and consumers, such as brewers, dairy makers and home appliances. Chan forecast the USD to reach 7.6 against the RMB in 2025, which will have the biggest impact on the consumption sector. If the US does not cut interest rates, or even raises them, some small and medium-sized developers may axe the prices of their residential units to pocket gains, which will exert pressure on property prices.
