Hong Kong bourse opened lower on the first trading day of the New Year. The HSI opened 127 points or 0.6% lower at 19,932; the HSCEI opened 63 points or 0.9% lower at 7,226; and the HSTECH opened 31 points or 0.7% lower at 4,436.

BABA-W (09988.HK) fully sold its stake in SUNART RETAIL (06808.HK) at a discount of almost 38% to Tuesday's (31st) closing price. The purchaser put forward a mandatory cash offer at $1.38 per share, with a deferred settlement option of up to $1.58 per share. SUNART RETAIL opened 14.9% lower at $2.11. BABA-W opened flat at $82.4. Separately, Chinese media reported that XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) aims to deliver 300,000 vehicles in 2025. The stock opened 0.9% higher at $34.8.

As to other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK) opened flat at $417. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) opened flat at $151.7. JD-SW (09618.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) shed 1.5%-2.3%. KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) dipped 0.4%. EAST BUY (01797.HK) soared 5.3%. KINGDEE INT'L (00268.HK) slipped 2.7%. For automakers, GEELY AUTO (00175.HK) dived 1.9%. BYD COMPANY (01211.HK), LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) and XPENG-W (09868.HK) sank 0.8%-1.1%.
