Minsheng Securities: Doubao Foundation Model Becomes Best CN AI App, w/ ~60M MAUs Beating Peers

LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK) share price mushroomed this morning (27th), closing the midday trade at $10.36, up 7.1%, with turnover of $1.31 billion. Chinese media reported that Lenovo Group officially announced the cooperation with the Volcano Engine under ByteDance. Harnessing the “super brain” of the Doubao foundation model, Lenovo's AI desktop assistant Ruyi will be transformed from a traditional system tool assistant to an intelligent conversational and comprehensive assistant. Minsheng Securities released a report saying that the Doubao foundation model has become the best AI application in China. As of mid-December 2024, the average daily tokens usage of the foundation model breached 4 trillion, up more than 33 times from the May release. According to data, by the end of November, the total user scale of Doubao APP in 2024 has successfully toppled 160 million, and the average daily new user downloads have been maintained at a stable level of 800,000, which makes Doubao the No. 2 AI APP globally and No. 1 AI APP domestically. According to the broker, Doubao's November MAUs (Monthly Active Users) of nearly 60 million were way beyond that of its domestic peers. It expected Doubao to rank first in mainland China with 59.98 million APP MAUs in November, while BIDU-SW (09888.HK)'s “Wen Xiaoyin” ranked second with 12.99 million APP MAUs, with a growth rate of 3.33%. TENCENT (00700.HK), which participated in the development of “Kimi” by domestic foundation model company Moonshot AI, reported 12.82 million APP MAUs, with a growth rate of 27.4%. “Tongyi”, an AI assistant under BABA-W (09988.HK), has 3.88 million APP MAUs, with a growth rate of 3.48%.
