Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng said in a recent interview with media including CNS that the Macau SAR Government spares no effort in promoting the development of non-gaming elements, and that Macau is no longer a city dominated by the gaming industry. The goal is to increase the proportion of non-gaming industry added value to about 60% by 2028, said the CE, and Macau is gradually showing signs of diversified development. The tourism industry is undoubtedly the best reflection of this achievement. According to the Statistics and Census Service of Macau, the number of inbound tourists in 2023 excelled 28 million, an upsurge of 3.9 times YoY. The figure is set to grow further in 2024, with nearly 26 million visitor arrivals in the first three quarters, a YoY hike of 30%. Ho Iat Seng attributes the booming tourism industry to the SAR government and industry's successful judgement and rapid adjustment to the changes in the structure of tourists after social resumption.
