The US government is weighing further restrictions on the sale of semiconductor equipment and AI chips to China, which could be announced as early as next week, Bloomberg reported, citing people with the knowledge of the matter.

The measures come after months of discussion among US officials, negotiations with allies in Japan and the Netherlands, and intense lobbying by US chip equipment makers.

The package under consideration will also sanction two partners owned by SMIC that make chips for Huawei, and add more than 100 entities to the list, targeting primarily Chinese chip-making equipment companies rather than factories that make chips.

In addition, the new measures will include some additional equipment and tooling restrictions, but it is not clear whether Japan or the Netherlands will ultimately impose additional restrictions on Chinese companies under the new US measures.
