China's sales of smartphones during 2024 “Double 11” shopping festival fell 9% YoY, mainly due to sluggish market demand as a result of the weak economy, which weakened consumers' enthusiasm on promotional activities, according to a report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research.

Sales of major handset brands varied, with Apple (AAPL.US)'s iPhone series and HONOR recording double-digit declines. While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max became the best-selling models during the shopping festival, Apple still found it difficult to resist the flagship model launch waves by its Chinese competitors.
