New Zealand authorities proposed today (13th) limiting the number of licenses available to online casino operators, while requiring them to set up age verification systems and banning advertisements targeting local children, Reuters reported.

New Zealand's Minister of Internal Affairs, Brooke van Velden, was quoted as saying that the new regulatory system is expected to be implemented in early 2026, and that violators will be fined up to NZD5 million (USD3 million).

She added that the regulation aims to make it safer for local residents to gamble with up to 15 licensed online casino operators.
