BABA-W (09988.HK)’s Alibaba DAMO Academy announced the recent launch of the “Eight-View Meteorological Model”, an AI weather foundation model to cope with increasingly extreme weather events. The model provides a ten-day weather forecast that is updated hourly and is designed to help various industries respond effectively to climate change and reduce their environmental impact. According to the Academy, “Eight-View” introduces regional multi-source data on the basis of global weather models, with a temporal and spatial accuracy of up to one square kilometer per hour. By evidently improving the prediction performance of temperature, radiation, wind speed and other key meteorological indicators, it has already been applied in new power systems with a high proportion of new energy.
