Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) announced that the Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. At 9 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Trami was estimated to be about 730 km southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west at about 18 km per hour across the central and northern parts of the South China Sea.

Trami is expected to maintain a distance of more than about 600 km from Hong Kong for most of the daytime today. Under the combined effect of Trami and the northeast monsoon, local winds will be occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. However, as the prevailing winds over Hong Kong will mainly be northerlies, local winds generally will not strengthen significantly during the day today due to terrain sheltering effect.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force until at least 6 p.m. The need to issue Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 thereafter will depend on the distance between Trami and Hong Kong and the change in local wind strength.
