Intel (INTC.US) and AMD (AMD.US) announced the establishment of an advisory group to ensure that software can run normally on their chips, reinvigorating the x86 computer architecture to address the challenge from Arm (ARM.US), foreign media reported.

After Arm's rise, Intel and AMD's market share has been eroded, and Arm has licensed its architecture to Apple (AAPL.US), Qualcomm (QCOM.US), Amazon (AMZN.US), Microsoft (MSFT.US), Alphabet (GOOGL.US), etc. Under the contract, all Arm chips must be able to run all Arm software. In contrast, Intel and AMD use the same x86 technology in their chips, but sometimes the software must be adjusted to run normally in the product.

Intel and AMD said that the new advisory group will bring changes to this situation. Companies such as Broadcom (AVGO.US), Dell Technologies (DELL.US), LENOVO GROUP (00992 .HK) and Oracle (ORCL.US) will join the group as founding members. The group will provide technical advice on the basic functions and features of Intel and AMD chips to ensure consistency and compatibility across multiple uses.
