More than one-fifth of the clients who subscribed for silver bonds through HSBC were first-time participants in the scheme, and that 41% of HSBC's clients who also invested in silver bonds last year increased their investment this year, a spokesman for HSBC said. This reflects the fact that the new batch of silver bonds continued to attract investment from elderly customers as it offers a return of 4% guaranteed annual interest rate.
