Mercedes-Benz: EU's Proposed Tariff Hike on CN EVs Wrong; EC Urged to Delay Implementation

Mercedes-Benz, in its statement, said that the European Commission (EC)'s proposed anti-subsidy tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) are a mistake and could lead to far-reaching negative consequences. It called on the Commission to put off the implementation. The statement also said that Mercedes-Benz adamantly believed that anti-subsidy tariffs will impair the competitiveness of an industry in the long run. It believed that China and the EU should maintain dialogue and reach a negotiated solution in the interests of both parties, and that both parties can find such a solution while time is needed. Free trade based on World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, including the principle that all market participants should be treated equally, is always supported, and that measures that affect the mutually beneficial trade order must therefore be urgently averted, the statement reaffirmed.
