Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar planned to seek billions of USD in funding from Chinese investors for a high-speed rail project between Malaysia and Singapore during his visit to China, Bloomberg quoted sources as saying.

It was reported that Sultan Ibrahim's delegation includes representatives of YTL Corp., which is one of the three groups shortlisted for the high-speed rail project.

The King has been a longtime supporter of the abovementioned project, which the Malaysian government revived last year. However, its was said to not being funded by taxpayers.

In an interview last year, Sultan Ibrahim said that a private consortium could fund the project and operate it for 30 years to recover the expense before handing it back to the Malaysian government.
